The plaque was erected in 1986 Dedicated to the town and people of Mount Mulligan
The monument is located at the base of the brickstack, Mount Mulligan

This monument is dedicated to all those who died in the explosion.

Coal mining began in 1910 at Mount Mulligan and in 1914 a branch line from Dimbulah was established.
The town prospered until 19th September 1921 when an underground explosion killed 75 miners.
This accounted for every miner working in the mine and they are all buried in the local cemetery.
It was one of Australia`s worst mining disasters and is still the worst to have occurred in Queensland.
